What To Expect For Unilorin PUTME and How To Prepare in 2023

As Jamb commences, what should be on the candidates' mind now, is the various institutions' PUME. Unilorin's PUME is not that hard at all, if you prepare well. "Prepare well" in this case doesn't mean you have to read everything in the textbook to excel well in Unilorin's PUME case. Now am going to refer you to various textbooks and handbooks to use and how to familiarize yourself to the CBT system. But if you wrote Jamb CBT exam, then you should have no problem at all dealing with PUME CBT system. But before we move further; let's familiarize ourselves with Unilorin's Jamb criteria;

  (i) 200 UTME for courses other than those listed in (5) O level Credits at not more than two sittings. (ii) 220 UTME for Accounting, Biochemistry, Business Administration, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Common Law, Economics, English, Electrical Engineering, Finance, Geology, Industrial Chemistry, Mass Communication, Mechanical Engineering, Microbiology, Pharmacy and Veterinary Medicine & (5) O level Credits at not more than two sittings. (iii) MB;BS candidates who obtained: (a) 240 marks in the UTME and (b) Credit Passes at one sitting only in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination or its equivalence in each of the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Now, the next thing is what to read for Unilorin's PUME. The only thing you need are the basic stuffs you learnt in your various Secondary schools. And the best way to improve your PUME score; if you are like me, who doesn't read that much in high school. Get familiar with the ESSENTIAL TEXTBOOK series. I repeat get familiar with the ESSENTIAL TEXTBOOK series. The best thing about this textbook is that, you don't have to read from PALI to PALI.Get the points but do not use the KEY POINT handbook in the bookshops; else, you'll be digging your own grave.

The total score for the post UME is 100 and the general cut-off is 65. The The cut-off mark varies and also it is always easier for any indigene of the university to be admitted compare to a non indigene. The School didn't publicize the catchment areas but if you have the requirements below, then you have no problem.

 Accounting medcine and law require 230 and above in jamb in unilorin. As for the post utme Medicine, Law and Political science candidates, you are required to score  80 and above. Accounting, Economics and other Management courses require 70 and above in the Post UME. While Mass Communication, Public admin and other Art courses require 65 and above in the Post UME.

As a bonus for my loyal readers this month, here is a list of things I think you'll benefit from:

1) To qualify for UNILORIN putme exam, you must have sat for any of the O’ Level exam either with the result released or awaiting and already meet up with the school’s minimum cut-off mark for your course in JAMB.

2) UNILORIN post utme exam is a CBT exam, so be ready to face the computer once more.

3) The question is going to be 50 in number which lasts for 25-30 minutes.

4) The questions can be categorized into 5 parts which are: Eng. Lang., mathematics, Biology, General Question (with Geography having higher priority) and Current Affairs.

5) Generally, UNILORIN doesn’t have proportion in which the questions are supplied to candidates which means a candidate may have the afore-listed subjects in the proportion/ratio 20:10;5;7:8(i.e. Eng. Lang.= 20, Mathematics=10, Biology=5, General Question=7, Current Affairs=8) while another candidate will have his/her combination in the ratio 15:4:8:17:6 and so on which means the proportion varies from candidate to candidate but one thing is certain, you will be provided with 50 questions in total.

6) UNILORIN does not test how far you know about the department or faculty you are coming in for because they believe those ones have been settled in your O’ Level and you have also been tested in JAMB so the post UTME is just a way to screen people by the institution, so therefore, don’t be surprised if you are a Law student and you sitting next to an Engineering student sitting for the same exam.

7) No official date has been announced for the sale of the post-UTME form by the school, but hopefully one month or more from the time of this post.

8) It would be posted on the dailies, the school website or any of the Nigerian student.

9) No official price announced yet but it would be something between ₦3000 and ₦4000 because last year it was ₦3000 while it was ₦2000 in the year before.

10) The form will be purchased online on the school site using either the Verve r Master Card. PLEASE NOTE THAT FORMS WILL NOT BE SOLD OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL SITE LIKE JAMB FORMS.

11) The Form will be out on sale for two weeks.

12) As practice of all Nigerian Federal Universities, UNILORIN also gives priority to candidate in her catchment area than students outside its catchment area, but you will have higher chances if you are from Kwara State but with the highest possibility if you are from Ilorin. So you should not be surprised if you score 220 in JAMB and 80% in putme with no admission yet someone with 200 in JAMB and 60% in putme gain admission.

13) UNILORIN catchment area are: The middle belt regions which are Kwara, Kogi, Niger, Benue, Nasarawa, etc. but the south western regions are sometimes considered in some cases.

14) UNILORIN putme cut off mark is generally 50% except for the highly competitive course which are within the range of 60% to 70%. So if you score anything less than 50% in the putme exam, forget about UNILORIN.{If you plan on entering legally. Remember everything is politics in Nigeria.}

15) All that is required of you on the day of the exam is your printout and a pen to sign the attendance but remember to dress decently because UNILORIN doesn’t tolerate any form of indecent dressing.

16) Your result will be sent to you as text message at 8pm or so be sure of the phone number you will provide while doing your registration although you can as well check the result on the school website.

17) A text message will be sent to you if you have being offered admission or by checking the school website. {Not sure if it’s still active. It was last year}

18) Religion is not used as a basis for admission into UNILORIN.

19) UNILORIN provide two centres for the putme exam which are the Lagos centre at Oba Akran Avenue and the other centre at the school premises in Ilorin. You are to choose one of this centres for your exam. {You get better chance of getting admitted if you use the school centre}. Na secret be that o!

20) UNILORIN remedial will also have to sit for the putme because it increases their chances of being offered their desired courses although what actually qualify them for admission is meeting up with the minimum 50% pass in their courses but this does not guarantee that they would be offered their desired courses.

Another important point is not to fall for scammers, who claim they have the CBT past question handbooks. There is no such thing as Unilorin CBT Past Question, at least not that am aware of. Me sef don te for this game, believe me; I have wasted k's in buying the so called Past Questions. If you don't believe this, buy one and cross-check with other PQs from another institution. Am sure you'll be surprised to find out it contains the same thing. Be conversant with your DICTIONARY and most importantly your CURRENT AFFAIRS handbook whether you are a SCIENCE student or an ART student. Read the important stuffs; you should know what I mean by important stuffs, Not when you lost your Grandpa or Granny.

For those who are computer freaks, you have no problem with the CBT system but if you are part of the vices; like me, then you can go to the PUME center before the scheduled date. I think there is a facility to train amateurs like us there. You can as well go to some computer centers near you, to train you for a small amount. Likewise, there are tutorials organized in the University and around the school campus to prepare you for the PUME. If are coming here for the PUME. Then I'll advise you arrive Ilorin, a week before to prepare well and get familiar to your pre-environment. Good Luck to all incoming freshers. I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors.
