The VC Explains Why New Programmes Were Added

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), has said that the University introduced some new academic programmes as a way of increasing the access of Nigerian youths to quality education.
Prof. Ambali, who made this known last Monday while receiving the members of a National Universities Commission (NUC) Resource Verification Team to the proposed Departments of Food Engineering and Computer Science Education, said, “The expansion of our programmes is to accommodate more candidates and to allow more admission seekers access to education”. He added that it is very important to ensure that the Nigerian youths are adequately educated.

Pointing out that Unilorin has been the most sought after University by admission seekers in the last couple of years, the Vice-Chancellor explained that over 107,000 candidates have already applied to study in the University for the forthcoming 2015/2016 academic session.
Prof. Ambali, however, lamented that because of the limitation placed on it by the admission quota allocation by the National Universities Commission (NUC), the University would be able to admit only about 12,000 of the applicants.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the NUC for its good work, and the Resource Verification Team for a job well-done.  He assured the Commission that the University would key in to its Benchmark for Academic Standards (BMAS).
Earlier in her address, the Coordinator of the NUC Verification Team, Dr. (Mrs.) M. B. Adeniran, said that the team was in the University in response to the University's application to commence the Food Engineering and Computer Science Education programmes.
The verification team later presented its report to the Vice-Chancellor. Other members of the team included Prof. John O Igene, Prof. S. B. Junaidu and Prof. T. O. Omobuwajo.
