The Management of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) and Kwara State
Government have resolved the controversy surrounding the temporary
relocation of a government agency to the university’s temporary site.
Chief
Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Mr Wahab Oba, who disclosed this
on Wednesday in a press statement, said the issue was resolved during a
meeting with the university authority and government representatives.
He
said that the meeting was attended by Prof. AbdulGaniy Ambali, the
University Vice Chancellor and Alhaji Isiaka Ishola Gold, who led
government delegate.
At
the meeting, Gold explained that the relocation of Kwara State Internal
Revenue Service to the university’s temporary site was a temporary
measure expected to last not more than three months.
Gold regretted the inconveniences and controversies generated by the relocation of the Service.
He
however assured the university authorities that the Kwara State
Government held the university and other federal agencies in the state
in high esteem and would never work to strain the relationship.
Responding
on behalf of the university, the VC acknowledged the age long robust
relationship between the institution and the state government.
He expressed optimism that status quo should subsist pending the 90 days request by the state.
Ambali
thanked the state government for the promptness with which it handled
the matter and invited it to the university’s upcoming 40th anniversary.
