Two students of the University of Ilorin and a youth corps member currently accommodating in the University were among 30 puerile Nigerians culled for the North-Central Zone of the Nigerian Centenary Quiz Competition.
The students, Jimoh Ibrahim, 500 level Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Abdulkareem Ibrahim Abdul-Akeem, 300 level History and International Cognations, and the youth corps member, Famuyiwa Olushola, affixed to the Directorate of Corporate Affairs, joined 27 other youths from Kogi, Niger, Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau States last Tuesday (March 11, 2014) at the Banquet Hall, Regime House Makurdi, Benue State for the zonal finals.
The Quiz competition was among the activities lined up for the celebration of the nation's 100 years of amalgamation, tagged “One Nigeria: Great Promise”, and participants were culled from all states across the six geo-political zones of the federation.
In October last year, youth were called to partake in the competition by submitting a 100-word essay on the theme “I Ken My Country”.
At the terminus of the keen competition, Osikhena Lamai from Nassarawa State emerged triumpher. He will represent the North-Central zone at the grand finale of the competition taking place soon in Abuja.
Certificates and prizes were given to all the participants at the cessation of the event.
Among dignitaries at the event were the Benue State Governor, Hon. Gabriel T. Suswan; the Secretary to the Regime of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim; the Benue State First Lady, Mrs. Dooshima Suswan; and the Benue State Commissioner for Inculcation, Mrs. Elizabeth Ugoh.
